Zipcar started in 2000 with a simple but disruptive idea: to get more people sharing cars than owning them in major cities around the world. We've grown our membership to 1 million members, spanning 500 cities, 10 countries, and 600 university campuses. Our innovations attracted Avis, which acquired Zipcar in 2013, opening the door to operational efficiencies, financial resources, and global scale.

We market directly to consumers, and we also market via channel partnerships with universities, airports, large residential developers, and businesses. We have invested in technology and in our brand to create a fun, memorable, and easy experience for our members.

The mobility space has changed so much since Zipcar launched so many years ago and so we’re focused on evolving our product offerings to meet new use cases and attract new audiences.

We are in the midst of a large-scale operational transformation across a variety of mobility initiatives such as peer-to-peer car sharing and transportation partnerships, using channels including responsive web, native mobile apps, and in-vehicle technology. We need a passionate product leader who can help to define a vision for the future of our technology platform that powers those possibilities and can lead the execution of that vision.

As Principal Technical PM, you will:

  • Own the vision and strategy for Zipcar’s mobility platform, used by Zipcar and other Avis Budget Group brands to enable car rental, car sharing, and much more.
  • Operate as part product manager, part developer evangelist, part strategist, and part sales engineer to tie together the needs of our customers, developers, and operational teams into one cohesive enterprise technology platform.
  • Synthesize user feedback, stakeholder feedback, insights from data, and other product inputs to establish future direction.
  • Influence critical technology decisions made among senior technology and operational leaders across the company.
  • Cultivate a deep knowledge of user problems through live field observation, interviewing, and other user research approaches.
  • Prioritize customer problems and envision solutions with UX, technical leads, and other key team members.
  • Communicate problem statements and product (solution) requirements to engineering and document them in writing.
  • Embed yourself within the delivery team of business stakeholders, UXand engineering to make trade-offs, steward the delivery process, and close gaps in requirements.

What kind of person are you?

  • Platform visionary: You know how to scale world-class platforms and develop a valuable partner ecosystem.
  • Passionate about solving critical problems: You cut through all of the noise to stay focused on the most significant problem.
  • Empathetic for users: You love getting out of the building and listening to customers problems and needs. You can also put yourself in the shoes of developers on the platform using skills like SQL, shell scripting to hit API endpoints, and technical prototype development.
  • An experienced leader: You have experience hiring, developing, and managing a high-performing team.
  • An inspiring communicator: You not only communicate to convey information, but also to inspire and guide the entire business.
  • Analytical and strategic thinker: You love discussing strategy with your colleagues, but you know that talk is cheap and are constantly testing key assumptions using data and research.
  • Gets stuff done: You foster strong team dynamics and are passionate about delivering successful solutions to user problems.
  • Have curiosity and motivation to learn: You invite critical feedback and proactively seek out any new information that will help prepare you for your next challenge.
